Holi-Festival of Colors

Need something to do Saturday?

Come celebrate Holi, the spring festival of colors. Holi is celebrated by throwing colored powder and colored water at your friends.

When: Saturday March 28, 2009, 2-5pm

Where: South Mall

Why do you have the opportunity to throw colored powder at your friends? According to one legend, the festival tradition of applying colored powder comes from Lord Krishna’s, one of the Gods in Hinduism, complaints to his mother about the contrast between his dark skin and his love, Radha’s fair color. His mother applied color to Radha’s face to make it appear to have the same color.

Come out and celebrate this fun-filled festival with the Hindu Students Council for FREE! Everyone is welcome! We will be giving out FREE rang, FREE water balloons, FREE snacks, and FREE t-shirts!

Hint: If you wear white, you can see how colorful you really get.

Here is a video from Holi, when it was celebrated at Barsana Dham two weeks ago.

  1. This is my favorite Indian festival and I only ever properly played Holi here in Austin! So everyone should come, it is super fun. You get to throw colored water balloons too btw, if that’s your thing.

I accidentally came across this festival last year while walking back to my dorm. Everyone was running around and having a great time!
Maybe I will attend on purpose this year.
