Live Graffiti Art Show..A Sight to See!

Looking for something creative and destructive, yet legal to do this weekend?  Well then I’ve got just the thing for you!  Head over to Spider House for the Art Seen Alliance Emerge: ATX Graffiti Art Show this Saturday.  Things get started at 7 p.m. and its completely free to attend, although donations (benefitting the Austin EcoSchool) are accepted.  So…what exactly is this event you ask?

With live aerosol painting and laser tagging (yes!) and over 20 emerging graffiti artists, what more could you ask for?  There’s also performers and DJs!  Oh my!  And even better, the artists work will be on display from April 4-9  in case you can’t make it out to the party.  This is definitely a must see for anyone interested in art!

So maybe you love art but you’re not so sure about graffiti.  What is it?  How is it created?  How long has it been around?  Wikipedia has an excellent definition (of course) but this article also gives a good feel for the art.  French architect Alain-Dominique Gallizia puts it this way:

“Graffiti is evolving.  It’s just like classical art, there are genres, masters, schools, such as ‘wild style’ or ‘bubble’.”

Also check out The Graffiti Creator where you can create your own art and Art Crimes-The Writing on the Wall for some great pictures.

So challenge your creativity and read up on this interesting form of art!  And then get out there and support our local Austin graffiti artists!

  1. This is very cool. Graffiti is something that has always intrigued me. It might be worth checking out to see pros do it. And not just the randomness that is found on some signs.

I was passing by Spider House last night (Sat night) and saw a bunch of people there, this was a pretty crowded event. It really sounded like they were having fun!

  3. i wish i hadn’t missed this!

i like the definition/quote you used about graf. I think it frames graf nicely. I wish more ppl could understand how lively and exciting this spontaneous expression is. I like it.
