Feeling artsy/creative lately but don’t have time to let it out? Tired of all your “cool” friends going to expensive “cool” art shows while you’re left behind? Or maybe you’re just not big into museums. Well, put a smile on your face because this weekend is going to change all of that!
Art City Austin is back! Let me explain.
Art City Austin is an “outdoor fair” put on by Art Alliance Austin each April featuring “hundreds of juried independent and emerging artists.” Tickets are only $15 for a 2 day pass and the proceeds benefit Austin Museum of Art and the Blanton Museum of Art! So…referring back to Almost Frugal’s post about ways to be charitable while still be frugal….this is a great way to support our local Austin art museums for a small amount while also having fun yourself!
Dates: April 25-26, 2009
Hours: Saturday, 10am – 6pm & Sunday, 11am – 6pm
Location: Art City Austin 2009 will be held along Cesar Chavez Street from Colorado Street to Lamar, including the S. 1st Street Bridge. Entrances are located on Cesar Chavez at Guadalupe + Colorado + Lamar and the S. 1st Street Bridge (1st Street at Riverside).
The event is expected to bring in 20,000+ art-loving people, so not only will you be surrounded by several great artists, but also great people who share a passion for art! There is also “live music, local culinary treats and community art installations”!
The featured artists work range from photography and jewelry to painting and ceramics to mixed media and woodwork! But that’s not all! Check out a complete lists of the artists here as well as examples of their work to check out before Saturday!
And, as if this isn’t already lovely (and cheap) enough, with your purchase of a 2-day pass, you will receive up to a 20% discount at participating 2nd Street Retail District businesses along with free admission + 10% museum store discount at the Austin Museum of Art-Downtown and the Blanton Museum of Art! Now how’s that for a good deal!
If you’re in a giving mood, you can give your time as a volunteer this weekend at the event! (Another recommendation from almostfrugal.com as a way to be charitable without spending money–give your time instead!) But, you better sign up fast because the slots are going fast!
Check out these FAQ to address anything I didn’t! Now go! And be artsy!
